  • 1 ¾ cups whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup wheat germ
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, wheat germ, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, molasses, and melted butter. Combine with dry ingredients until just mixed.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly to form a ball. Shape into a circle about 7 inches wide.
  4. Place on a floured baking sheet and score the top with a sharp knife. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F; then reduce to 375°F for another 30-35 minutes until hollow when tapped.
  5. Cool wrapped in a tea towel before serving.
