Ingredients
- 1 ½ lbs chuck steak, cubed
- 5 large onions
- 2–3 tbsp olive oil
- 2½ cups beef broth
- 1 ½ cups Gruyere cheese, grated
- Worcestershire sauce
- Dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season cubed chuck steak with salt and pepper; sear until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt butter and add onions with a pinch of salt. Cook on medium-low heat for about 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
- Deglaze the pot with half of the Marsala wine, scraping up browned bits.
- Return beef to the pot along with garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, flour, broth, bay leaves, and remaining Marsala. Stir well.
- Simmer covered for about 90 minutes until beef is tender.
- Prepare baguette slices with olive oil and mustard; top with Gruyere cheese and broil until bubbly.
- Serve stew in bowls topped with cheesy baguette slices.
