  • 3 ½ to 4 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken by bringing it to room temperature and patting it dry.
  2. Mix the dry rub ingredients in a small bowl and coat the chicken thoroughly.
  3. Heat one side of the grill for high, direct heat and leave the other side off for indirect cooking.
  4. Grill the chicken on the indirect heat side for about 30 to 35 minutes, flipping every 10 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F to 165°F.
  5. Brush BBQ sauce on each piece and grill covered for an additional few minutes until reaching an internal temperature of 175°F.
  6. Serve immediately with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
